The African Development Bank (AfDB) has restated its commitment to harness the power of education and skills development as catalysts for economic growth and social progress across the continent.
President of the bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, gave the assurance when members of the Board of Nigerian University of Technology and Management (NUTM) visited him in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to discuss upskilling of African youths for the continent’s development.
Welcoming the delegation, Adesina highlighted the alignment of NUTM’s bold vision with AfDB’s mission of accelerating the region’s economic transformation through initiatives that empower African youths.
Responding, NUTM board member, Dr Omobola Johnson, said the institution is working towards building a strong brand that will resonate globally and produce technology leaders like the Indian Institute of Technology.
Another member, Mr Demola Adeyemi-Bero, emphasised the institution’s strong industry focus, integrating town and gown to tackle real-world challenges across various sectors.
NUTM President, Dr Babs Omotowa, shared the impact the university’s alumni are making as entrepreneurs and changemakers. The meeting explored collaborative opportunities between NUTM and AfDB through its programmes.
Both institutions expressed their readiness to work together to address skills gaps, promote entrepreneurship and create economic opportunities for Africa’s youth population.
